GlobalStacks vs Modal

Modal is a powerful serverless and GPU compute platform. GlobalStacks is designed for teams that want sandbox fleets on infrastructure they operate directly.

Modal Sandboxes

When Modal fits

Best fit
ML-heavy workloads, GPU-backed agent tools, and teams already using Modal's serverless model.
Pricing
Sandbox CPU is $0.00003942 per physical core-second, where one physical core is listed as a 2 vCPU equivalent. Sandbox memory is $0.00000672 per GiB-second.
GPU
Standard GPU pricing includes H100 at $0.001097 per second, equal to about $3.95 per hour, and RTX PRO 6000 at $0.000842 per second, equal to about $3.03 per hour.
Important tradeoff
If your main requirement is a mature serverless GPU platform, Modal has a deep product surface.

GlobalStacks

When to choose GlobalStacks

Use GlobalStacks when workloads need private-network placement, host-agent control, distributed volumes, and a choice of BYO, shared managed, or dedicated managed capacity.

Platform subscription and BYO

One organization subscription across Studio, Products, and Infra: $10 per month with an annual commitment, billed monthly, or $12 with monthly flexibility.

Five BYO host slots and unlimited clusters are included. Additional hosts cost $2.50 per month with an annual commitment or $3 with monthly flexibility; workloads on eligible hosts are not metered.

Shared managed pricing

Planned annual-commitment rates: $0.08 per active vCPU-hour, $0.04 per reserved vCPU-hour, $0.01 per GiB-hour of memory, $0.10 per GiB-month of persistent storage, and $0.05 per GB of external network. Flexible-month rates are $0.096, $0.048, $0.012, $0.12, and $0.06 respectively.

Dedicated managed pricing

Provider infrastructure is passed through at cost. Management is 20% with a $25 monthly minimum per host on an annual commitment, or 24% with a $30 minimum on monthly flexibility. CPU and memory are not metered within the host.

Private mesh included

GlobalStacks includes a managed private mesh for encrypted control-plane, agent, and backend traffic across eligible GS-hosted and customer-owned hosts. Public traffic still enters through explicit ingress; customers do not have to run or configure a separate mesh service for the standard path.

Decision guide

Pick the model that matches your workload.

Choose GlobalStacks when Studio and Product workloads need to run across your own hosts, private networks, shared managed capacity, or customer-exclusive managed servers. One organization subscription includes Studio, Products, Infra, five BYO hosts, and unlimited clusters.

Combine BYO, shared managed, and dedicated managed infrastructure across development, staging, production, and burst capacity without changing the control-plane model.

The same model includes private encrypted mesh traffic for eligible control-plane, agent, and backend paths. Public exposure remains an explicit ingress decision rather than a side effect of joining the mesh.
